The BTEC Music Performance course will help you to explore the Music Industry and develop your skills as a musician. You will work on developing your technical skills on your chosen instrument, as well as performance skills. This course enables you to become an extremely versatile and well-rounded musician by immersing you in the world of 糖心Vlog传媒 Arts.

Alongside practical skills, you will have lessons on Music Theory and Composition, using state of the art equipment and industry specialised software. Not only this, but you will learn about all elements of the music industry and gain a deeper knowledge of roles within.

You will take part in a plethora of live performances and have the opportunity to use several performance platforms, alongside experiencing incredible workshops by industry professionals to enhance your experience and education.

 

The two-year course is equivalent to one A-Level and will broaden your musical knowledge and the practical application of your performance skills across a diverse range of projects. From this course you can progress to study Music Performance and other courses at Higher Education Level or enter the world of employment. The Music Performance course provides you with a multitude of transferable skills for whatever career you choose.

Entry requirements

The Music Performance Course comprises of 4 different elements that enable you to become a well-rounded and versatile musician. The units you will study are:

  • Practical Music Theory and Harmony
  • Professional Practice in the Music Industry
  • Ensemble Performance
  • Composition

In Practical Music Theory and Harmony lessons, you will look in detail at music theory but in practical scenarios. You will learn in depth music theory techniques through the use of composition and performance. Features studied include signs and symbols in notation, melodic composition, chords and cadences for composition or arrangement and music notation for performance. Each section of this unit will allow you to understand the different elements of music and practice them through real-world industry scenarios.

In Professional Practice in the Music Industry lessons, you will delve into the world of the Music Industry itself by studying professional behaviours for industry success, industry roles and organisations, skills and presenting. All of the sections in the unit will show you how to make a career in music and gain invaluable skills to succeed in life.

In Ensemble Performance lessons, you will be rehearsing a vast repertoire of music and genres within a band setting, leading to multiple performances. In this unit you will develop your ensemble skills, alongside teamwork and communication skill which will enable you to progress in your career as a musician as ensemble skills are required. You will be required to be self-critical in order to produce the highest quality of performance. This exciting unit provides many opportunities for students and is truly enjoyable.

In Composition lessons, you will create an artistic product that captures emotions and expresses feelings through sound. This unit helps you to explore the building blocks for composition that are used across all genres. You will look at musical material, developing your ideas into a final composition using acoustic or electronic instruments. It will provide you with a solid foundation in composition techniques, enhancing your musical ability.
